In 1588 Giulio Jasolino, italian physician, made extensive studies and published the first guide on the thermal waters of Ischia. After a survey on the sources of the island, he indicates the composition and the beneficial effects on many diseases.

The hydrothermal basin "Il Fornello" rises on the slopes of Montagnone pad overlooking the harbor of Ischia Porto. Its name derives from the resemblance to a small bakery and in this basin waters gush out at a temperature of 45 ┬░ C, they have a light colored, odorless and slightly bitter taste.

The use of these thermal waters is efficacious in treatment of various diseases, for rheumatism, bronchial and respiratory problems, nervous system, dermatitis and inflammation of various origins as well as to cosmetics treatments and beauty care.
